So as of now i have a stock car with cat back and cai. But have picked up a set of TSP 225 as cast heads and a fast 102/102 setup im also ordering a tick cam. I think 1 3/4 would work for now my concern is i have a LS2 block im wanting to build a 408 with flat tops and -4cc valve reliefs looking at 11.5-12.0 to 1 compression. I just dont want to have to change headers after the bottom end build.
Most motor builders will tell you that there's no advantage to 1 7/8" headers until you hit 440 cu in. Although the larger headers may give the 400+ cu in engines a little more top end horse power they will actually reduce the torque in the more usable RPM range.

If planning for future mods then yes pull the trigger on the 1 7/8 You may lose a little TQ with your current combo-- but make it up on the top end anyways
1 7/8 headers lose practically nothing on even a stock ls1. The gain outweighs the minimal loss, especially in such a light car like a c5. If you can swing the dough get the bigger headers and you'll be set for whatever you plan. That being said I have 1 3/4 myself and am perfectly happy so either way will be a huge improvement over stock.
