I'v been reading up on clutches for the last few weeks. I have decided to go with the RAM from Summit. I have no experiance with clutches so I need to know what to order. Money is tight now, (see post about my new mods) so I don't want to get anything that I don't need. Anyone know the part numbers to the things I need also? I tried to use their website to purchase but got way too many options to choose from. Thanks in advance.
Go to SummitRacing.com:
Part#s:
RAM-402
RAM-6130
Call MTI and get the:
McLeod Adjustable Master Cylinder
Get your stock flywheel resurfaced ($35-40)
'02 ZO6 Slave (I'll get the part # real fast)
Voila, the nastiest clutch out there and at an UNBEATABLE price.
All aftermarket (non-GM clutches) require an adjustable master cylinder. If you don't use one your clutch, regardless of how much power it will hold, etc will be toast in not time. The '02 ZO6 slave is used b/c it has better hydraulic capabilities. This helps the clutch engage/disengage easier and more efficiently. That's the CHEAPEST setup you will find for a total package. However, if you wear this RAM out you can replace it for $329 in parts (disc and pressure plate) and have the flywheel resurfaced for $35-$40 and a new slave $68. You CAN NOT, NO WAY, YET, beat that price for a replacement clutch, anywhere, anyhow. This clutch ROCKS.
An aftermarket master cylinder is not *required* by any means. In fact, most current clutch manufacturers certify their stuff to work with the stock master. Now - that said - it's a *good idea* to replace it. The stock master is plastic, and inherently more prone to "bulging" than the McLeod billet aluminum piece.
I put the RAM 402 PP, 910 (sintered iron) disk, Fidanza alum. flywheel, McLeod master, and stock slave in my car - it's amazing, holds like no other, and the pedal is NIIIIICE and stiff. I highly recommend it. :)
Yes, tell your installer to take a 15/64" drill bit and enlarge 3 of the 6 holes on the Pressure Plate that the 15/64" doesn't already fit into. Use red loctite on the flywheel bolts and pressure plate bolts. Please make sure that if you have someone install the clutch that it's someone who is familiar with the C5 and has installed C5 clutches stock and aftermarket before.
