I'm getting a P0650 code. The CEL was not coming on when turning the key to start, so I removed the instrument cluster and replaced the bulb. I turned the key, saw the bulb light, then buttoned everything back up, then went to drive it and the light isn't lighting up again.
I've done some searching, and same up with some diagnostics that involve a scan tool. Not sure what tool it is, but pretty sure I don't have it. What would cause a CEL bulb to burn out that fast? Any ideas?
(I'm also getting a P0410 code.)

I had deleted the P0410 and P0650 using the DIC buttons, but they always came back. I tried using my cheapo OBD2 scanner plugged into the OBD2 port and deleted the codes that way, and they haven't come back yet (though it's only been a couple of drives).
That scanner may only be good for one thing, determining if the car is ready for emission testing. They will only read emission related codes and that is the only thing it can do that you cannot do from the onboard system.
The C5 has about 325 possible codes from the 11 or 12 modules in the car depending on if you have or do not have F45 or F55 Selective Suspension.
So...it looks like the CEL is working, but only on first turning of the key. That is, if I start the motor cold, it lights up. But if I turn the motor off, then turn it back on without removing the key, there's no CEL.
