Paging C-5 Tech, C4C5 Spec.: Disable TPM system display?
I recently mounted up non-runflats on wheels without tire pressure sensors. Not surprisingly, at start-up and every 10 minutes thereafter, I'm getting the "RR Tire Flat, LR Tire Flat," etc. messages. Very annoying, but I'm getting very good at punching the Reset button.
On page 3-107 of my 2002 Service manual it states that the Scan Tool can be used to Set Options deactivating the TPM display and disabling the TPM DTC displaying option on the DIC.
My local Chevy dealer attempted to disable the TPM display via the Scan Tool and was unsuccessful. According to their Tech Support, it's not possible to disable the TPM on a non-ZO6 model.
C-5 Tech: I seem to recall a post where you stated the TPM is a standard feature vs. an option and thus can't be disabled.
1. Is it possible, per the Service manual (or your experience), to disable the TPM display via the Scan Tool?
2. If so, what is the procedure/method to do so? I'm looking for some type of documentation I can hand the Chevy tech to follow on his Scan Tool.
The BCM can only be programmend to activate or de-activate options:
Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration
The service BCMs EEPROM chip must be programmed with the proper RPO configurations by using a scan tool. The EEPROM stores information regarding the vehicle options and point of sale. If the BCM is not properly configured with the correct RPO codes, the BCM will set default values for some systems, which could cause malfunctions in other systems. When the BCM is replaced, the BCM must be programed to identify the following information:
Country of Sale (US, Canada, Europe, Japan, etc.)
Real Time Damping (RTD)
Memory Options
Front Fog Lamps
HVAC (C60-Manual, CJ2-Automatic)
Active Handling
Auto Headlamp Control
Power Tilt/Telescope Column
The TPM system is not an option,so I cant see how it could be de-activated...
I think you are going to be fine w/ the sensors in there, and maybe better off. If you get a leak, you will know it right away on the DIC. This should give you plenty of time to get off the road and into a tire shop. If you have a blowout in either case (with or without sensors) you are SOL anyway. I would be willing to bet that the goo will go in through the sensor and work, but ruin the sensor itself. I don't know for sure though. Having the sensors gives you options and advanced warning of a problem. C4C5specialist is working on finding out if the TPM system can be activated on the Z06 for me. I really miss this feature and hope to get it working on my car soon. Previously on my vert I checked the pressure every time I drove out of the garage. I am paranoid about a low tire, so I check mine manually now about 1 to 2 times a week. Good luck with your situation, I'm sure you will get it worked out.
