Spoke to a few knowledgeable guys before my Fast purchase, one an avid racer and a sponsor here. Both recommended the 92 so that's what I went w/. Also had it ported. Apparently the 102 is a better overall design and still gives you 5 or so hp more. Either way I'm happy w/ my choice.
I have a boosted LS6 with 102 intake and like it. These larger intakes like upper rpm's though, that were they really shine.
Installing a higher rpm cam, so that's the reasoning behind adding the 102, to go along with the cam. Hopefully get that 9 extra HP along with headers and cam I should get to 450rwhp. Currently at 402rwhp. Be close.
In an EFI configuration, the larger the plenum the better. Regardless of effective rpm window, matter of fact no plenum is best.
All the "science" is in the intake tract (intake runner & the runner in the head). Effectively from the valve face to the intake runners bellmouth....total length/ taper/ CSA..etc.
So, the question seems to be....what is the difference in the runners between the Fast 92 and the 102 ??
Carbs need plenum for signal.
Fyi, I've never seen a 102 lose power to a 92...in any circumstance. Especially if it's an auto car.
And of course, filtration and throttle control dictate OEM and majority of aftermarket designs.
Typically large intakes and larger than stock T-Bodies only work well on larger cubic inch engines and/or engines that consistently run above 6500 RPM---That's where they can make some added HP----IF you car does not fit any of those scenarios then you would be better off with the 92 intake and a stock ported T-Body---Smaller intakes create more port velocity which is the key ingredient for making lots of TQ--A large intake slows down the velocity so much below 6000 RPM's that you may actually lose HP and TQ --all depends on how you use your car and it's size
That's what a previous tuner said, then I found another tuner, no problems, not hard to tune, just have to find the right tuner, mine is on FI with Fast 102.
Tuning is not the issue---any tuner can make any combination start-run idle and run fine--The major issue is if that combination is making more HP and TQ than before--And where it's making it at----If it makes max HP at 6500 and you don't run it that high consistently then you aren't getting any advantage same goes for where the max TQ happens
