I have a '99 with the automatic and 3.15 gears. Why do many of you refer to this transmission as A4? My buildsheet lists it as A5. Also my buildsheet lists the diff. as " G90 3.15 AXLE". What is the difference between it and the G92?
Thanks,
John
Yes, I know that. I am asking why the A4 transmission is listed as A5 on my buildsheet, and why my 3.15 ratio differential is listed as G90 rather than G92.
Thanks,
John
I have a 2000 coupe with the auto trans and the performance axle. While my sheet shows the G90 also, I don't see any A5. I don't see anything with just two characters. My transmission is shown as M30. Are you sure that you're not looking at AK5 (The restraint system code).
Ok guys, thanks, I think you have kind-of answered my questions. I guess on the buildsheet the G92 diff. is listed as G90. But for the transmission, while mine is also listed as M30 AUTO TRANS, in the block for the code it is listed as A5. This is the small block between the "ENGINE HARNESS" code and the "TRANSMISSION HARN" code blocks above the large open area where M30 is listed. I'm sure yours is the same, it just makes me wonder why everyone refers to it as the A4 transmission when the code is A5.
Thanks,
John
It has nothing to do with GM codes, its just an easy way to describe the tranny. A = Automatic, and the number is how many forward gears. Examples below.
A2 = Powerglide
A3 = TH350, TH400
A4 = 200-4R, 700R4, 4L60, 4L60E, 4L80E
A5 = GM makes one right now, but not in any domestic rear wheel drive cars, it may appear in the cadillac XLR
M5 = T-5
M6 = T56
