Nate at Xtreme is trying to put together a GP for Katech heads and cam and ported throttle body. I'm interested in the stage II heads and stage III cam and throttle body. Here'the link http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=369565 . I have a 2001 Z06...Only mods are a blackwing and soon LGM longtubes. What kind of RWHP and RWTQ can I expect with the Katech package ??? How does this setup compare to others...like Cartek, MMS etc. Would Cartek's X-package be a better choice in terms of horses ? How "streetable" is the Cartek X-Package (the Z06 is not my daily driver but I would like to be able to take 200-300 mile trips) ? Any and all opinions are appreciated. Thanks!!!!!!!!
I've had my Katech package since April/May, and it's been great. Dyno #s were 419rwhp, 380rwtq. I'll be visiting Katech in the next month or two for a dyno tune, and hope to get those numbers up somewhere around 430rwhp and 390-400rwtq. The car is very drivable; a nice lope at idle, but I can still sit in traffic in 90 degree temperatures with the air on and not worry about the car dying. I'd definitely recommend it!
I'm not sure how Katech is classifying stage II/stage III, but I believe it's stage III. Anyway, the specs are 224/228 .581 114LSA. I've also got the LS-6 heads, valves are 2.055/1.600. It really has been awesome since the package was installed; it feels like a totally different car!

The Katech head and cam package coupled with LGM Longtube Headers is a popular choice among tuners who are looking for performance, durability and reliability out of their C5's. The Katech Stage II Cam is their grind that Comp Cams fabricates. The cam specs are I-.581/224 E-.588/228 114 LSA. The LGM Longtube Headers are highly recommended by the good people at Katech and I know Lou at LGM has those headers in stock at this time. LGM Longtube Headers are of superior quality to any other header system on the market today! Lou incorporates 33 inch 304 stainless steel primary tubes that are 1.75 in diameter and have a .060 wall thickness coupled with a merge collector. Lou's headers have shown significant gains with respect to both horsepower and torque, over his competitors and has the dyno numbers to prove it! My head, cam and header package wil be installed in my own car in just a few weeks and will follow-up this post in the weeks to come.
I'll be using GMPP 61cc 11.2:1 SCCA World Challenge Heads, Katech cam I-.581/224 E-.588/228 114 LSA, Katech throttle body, Katech timimng chain (Hutton) and gears(Cloyes), Katech oil pump, Katech chromoly pushrods, Diamond Racing forged pistons with 2cc valve reliefs, Comp 918 springs, Comp titanium retainers, Comp LS1 spring seats, Eagle on center H-Beam connecting rods, LG Motorsports Longtube Headers and Heatmaster heatshield with Kool Sox spark plug wire boots...etc...etc...etc :)
I ordered the Katech Stage 2 LS1 Heads, Stage 3 Cam, Katech Timing Chain, ARE Oil Pump, LS6 Intake manifold, 28lb injectors, Thermostat, Gasket & Bolts, Stainless Steel Werks Headers/Jet coated, Underdrive pulley, Katech TB and a TB bypass kit. I already had the 3.42 gear and Yank 3000 installed about a month ago. So I just be in good shape!
I ordered everything for Nate the other night, but have him holding the order until I see about a couple of other mods to do also! But I think this should do it!!
Pocket change ehhh.... I need to see some pic's of those rims!!!! and that new rear!!!! Come on and post them!!! Let me know when the next gathering is an I will be there.
I'd love to show you pictures of the rims.....but it's a problem, 'cause they're in boxes on a UPS truck somewhere headed back west! Wrong backspacing; so I've got to wait a couple of more weeks. :( :mad
The next gathering that I know of is at VetteWrench's on Sept. 15; try to make it out if you can (we've also got a Whirlyball thing going on Sept. 14 if you're interested)!!
ICULUKN-C5, Why did you choose to go with the StageIII heads and not the Stage II? I was told not to use the larger valves (volume vs- velocity)-is yours a big bore or stroker? (Seems like bigger should be better). Can't wait to see the dyno numbers !! Thanks for the help.
Almost forgot.................................. ..........
How do you like the Spec Stage III Clutch and aluminum flywheel???
