I have replaced the gears on both headlight motors of my 2000 C5 coupe. I periodically have the problem with the left headlight not coming up and I have to turn manual actuator **** slightly so that the motor can work properly.
Now I have a new problem and I couldn't find anything with a search. The lever that is attached to the headlight motor attaches to the headlight housing with a pin. It secures with a press-on cap.
That pin is either missing or broken because the level is no longer attached to the headlight. Does anyone know if this is a part I can buy separately? If not, I'll fix it with a bolt and nut, but I'd rather not do that unless it's absolutely necessary. I don't want sharp threads on the plastic mount.
Well, I found the answer and it isn't good. It's called a "headlight locking pin" and it's not available as a part. You have to buy the entire headlight at $1,000+. No, I think I'll fix it with a bolt and shroud.
Here are a couple of photos. One shows the U-shaped mounting point on the headlight housing. The other shows the flat "rod" that attaches to the headlight motor and the headlight housing. The link pin that attaches the two either broke, which is doubtful, or the press-on locking cap came off and the link pin fell out. It's the link pin and locking cap that are not available as separate items. So a $5 part isn't offered, but you can buy it along with the full headlight for $1,000+. No thanks GM, I'll make a pin.
