Default Headlight Motor Question

I recently purchased a 2002 with only 10,047 miles on it. I drove it for the first time at night last week. The headlights came up just fine and when I turned them off, they closed just fine except the left headlight motor continued to run for about 10 seconds. Is this something I can fix or do I need a new motor? Thanks.

Sounds like a plastic gear issue.

Read this link. Scroll down and he covers this issue. He is a great source for fixing this issue.

You need a new "headlight gear kit".....the new gear being brass/bronze and not the OEM being made of a molded composite..a plastic. rodneydickman.com makes a complete headlight kit, under $50. and great instructions with pic's.

I'd start with the rubber bumpers before tearing into the gear fix. I agree with the other guys that it could be either the gears or the bumpers but the bumpers is the easier - less intrusive - solution that may work.
