Just traded for a 02 c5Z and even though the previous owner said the motor and trans only has 30k miles the body has more than that. I hope what he told me was correct because I took his word for it and really wanted out of my turbo car so I made the deal. I have been fixing the little things that have been bothering me, dim lights, burnt out lights, cracks in the plastics and so on and so forth. The trans is getting ready to be sent out to be built by tick and I was wondering what are some things I should check over and make sure look good or wear out on these cars? I will be doing the usual plugs, wires, fuel filter, oil filter and oil change and a filter replacement. These things may not need done as the car runs very well, but this is for my maintenance record and a piece of mind.
So anything I am forgetting or overlooking or need to look at?
Create a new Thread for every individual issue you have. I and others do not work and sort thru half a dozen issues in one Post to solve problems. I don't think it is just me.
On a +10 year car, your rubber bushings may start to wear out depending on where the car was, regardless of mileage.
That's a low mileage car...or is it just the engine?
A car that old with average mileage may show wear on the sway bar bushings (they start squeaking or coming apart), A-arm bushings (lateral play at the connection point, sloppy steering, or loose rear), Torque tube tunnel rubber bushings, trans mount, engine mounts. If the chassis is a higher mileage, then look at hub bearings, ball joints (done with a arm bushings) torque tube bearings, rear-end seal (driver's side), steering rack.
Then you should also have worn roof, window, trunk seals. AC system will probably need maintenance. Interior: dash separation, hazard switch usually fails, rocking driver/passenger seat. Seat bolsters will definitely have rotted out. Might as well look at Bill Curlee's electrical troubleshooting posts. There are some connectors and grounds that get corroded.
