I recently purchased a 2001 A4 Coupe that is basically stock. In the near future I plan on supercharging it with mild boost till I have a chance to build a proper motor for it. I am currently looking into a pair of headers, x-pipe and titanium Z06 mufflers as a setup.
My question is do I purchase headers with the A.I.R. fittings for the EGR controls or not? How big of a deal is it to get rid of them if I choose to go without the EGR stuff (my area doesn't have emissions testing)? I was also looking at 1.75" primaries or should I look into something with larger primaries considering my future modifcations?
The header size you mention will be more than adequate unless you go for really BIG horsepower. Removing the AIR fittings can be done with block-off plates or, for a cleaner look, the tubes can be cut off and the holes patched with the right welding equipment. If you remove the AIR fittings then you'll have the check engine light to contend with but that can be tuned out. Since you'll have to have the computer tuned after adding the boost anyway, I'd wait and do it all at one time unless you are really wanting to spend the $$$ and have it tuned twice.
