Default Should I gut the pre-cats?

I am going to get a new exhaust (Z06), and just want a little meaner sound. Nothing too loud, or raspy. I have researched, and some mentioned resonance? I do not want to remove the main cats, for smell, emissions, low end torque reasons. Will I gain any Hp? Will this sound good with the Z06 exhaust? I want a throaty mean sound. Thanks in advance.

I cut mine out and welded a straight pipe in its place.I read somewhere that GM said it was worth 5 hp.My sound did get a little throatier.

I gutted mine a month or so ago - I believe this is the best bang for the buck mod for a '01 or '02. I did notice more power in the upper RPM range (>4500) and the exhaust note is more throaty.

Gary, I wanted to do the same as you did; but feared our states AlGore smog check ****'s catching it during the visual check.

I have done just that; Z06 titanuims with gutted precats. It sounds a lot meaner from outside the car; but is still bearable on the inside.

Like someone said earlier; its a free mod!

Did this make your car start running richer or leaner, also where did you get those exhaust pipes?

Not sure about the richer/leaner thing. I just left the stock pipes in place and cleaned them out. :D It is a little louder, and meaner, Ill post when I get the Z06ers on there.
