I plan on swapping out valve springs leaving the engine/head in place and I have noticed some debate on which spring compressor to use. Currently installed are dual springs which I will be replacing with a similar set of higher lift dual springs (http://www.texas-speed.com/p-474-pre...retainers.aspx). The concerns I have are ability to work with dual valve springs (issues with comp and issues with proform unless flipped over), and issues with the head being stripped when using a tool that does two springs at once (due to stronger springs).
Not true - the Crane definitely works. A friend of mine bent what appeared to be a strong compressor - he ended up borrowing my Crane tool to change his valve springs. Spring compressors are not created equal.
I've used a homemade tool to pull valve springs on LS heads a handful of times and it was always kind of a pain to do them individually. The tool that does 2 at once is really nice and will save you a lot of time.
Also, be sure to used a stud and a nut to compress the springs, don't use a bolt! You run the risk of stripping out those rocker mount holes.
