I just had a stall converter and gears put in my car and I am getting this 1870 code. I have called thunder racing and ed wright. THunder racing wants me to bring them my car . Their shop is about 3.5 hours away. I do not want to drive that far with the problem. ED WRIGHT wants 450.00 and thunder racing wants 350.00 ... What to do???? :(
P1870 has nothing to do with torque management. You do need a programming change for your gear swap. Either solution would fix you up.
If the TR option includes any dyno tuning I would think it would be the better choice if you could take the time to make the trip. If it's just gear scaling, it ain't worth the trip IMHO, particularly since you'd likely be clearing codes all the way there. (You might inquire if they've looked into a bench setup that would allow them to do programming with the PCM out of the car.) You'll need to pull your PCM and send it to Ed, either in advance or as a core, if you go with the Fastchip option so there's still some investment of your time there.
