Hey everyone, Its my first time changing my own oil on the C5 and I cant get the plug to budge. Righty tightly lefty loosey right???? Is it different?? The last thing that I want to do is ruin the plug in my driveway.
That's a pretty low torque screw. I think only 15 lbs/ft. I'd take it to the dealer for this first change. May be $70 or $80, but cheap if the last guy cross threaded it and you end up needing to tow it. Good luck.
I just tried it, Its in there good. I'm so pissed off right now..it figures. I took it to the vette doctors last time, but i figured that I had time this weekend to do it, so I went out and purchased the oil, filter, filter wrench and pan. I spent almost as much as it would have cost to have the vette docs do it!!!! They must have put the plug on with a air gun! I cant imagine that they would do that.
Are you trying it when hot. They always move a little easier when the engine is hot versus cold. You sure don't want to mess up the threads. If you do find the threads strip, auto supply stores carry a repair plug. Replacing the pan is over $500.

Take it back to Vette docs (along with your oil and filter) and tell them the problem, maybe they'll change your oil for free, since they did it?
