Need some help - have had car to dealer over 4 times for grinding in axle on turns and while traveling straight. Fluid was drained and changed - quiet for a short time and grinding came back.
Last time dealer said both wheel bearings were bad. Replaced, changed fluid again - grinding is now back.
Car has done this for 3 years. When I back up or turn it actually feels like the rear end is kicking out - kind of like riding a bike tire over a can and it kicks your wheel.
Gm friend is trying to get me a new axle but don't know if I can - anyone have any ideas?
I don't have any grinding sounds, but I do get that "kicking out" feel sometimes when I make a hard right hand turn. I'd like to know why that happens too!
Yes they are adding the additive everytime. The car is quiet for a short time but then starts up again . When turning figure 8's trying to work in the additive there is no improvement.
I'd describe it like putting wheels on and not tightening the lugs tight and the wheels wobble . But it does it on turns. I also here the noise going straight.
When the mechanic changed the wheel bearings he thought he had the fix - I knew he didn't. He was still bothered by the rear still making noise - so he changed the fluid.
If they are putting synthetic in,have them switch to GM# 12345977 and an additive (as per GM)...If the noise comes back after that, they will need to replace the posi clutch disc packs :yesnod:
The additive has a tendency to seperate from synthetic (states it on the bottle),combined with excessive varnish buildup on the clutch plates, will cause the noise to return :yesnod: There is no way of cleaning the varnish from the clutch plates short of removing them...

My 2000 was making a "skuffing" noise on very tight turns. I went to the dealer and told them to change the fluid (according to C-5 TECH advice) and it stopped the noise. However, I don't think they would have had a clue of what to do if I had not told them.
