a cam is not going to put any more strain on the parts you are worried about (pistons/rings/rods/etc)... just make sure to get proper valvesprings, pushrods, and a good timing chain... I would also recommend upgrading the rocker arm trunions and replacing the oil pump while you're there... if you want to go even further you could pull the heads and replace the lifters as well... you might lose some boost depending on what cam you end up with but the car will make more power
