Re: Is the SLP MAF sensor any good? (BrightRed C5 SWFL)
This is reviewed in the current High Tech Performance magazine. They changed the bellows and installed the SLP MAF, initially they lost a few HP but after a few hundred miles they redynoed, and gained 5.1HP and0.4lb ft of torque. Then they reprogrammed with the Hypertech Power Programmer III, netting an additional 8.7 ft lbs of torque and improved HP throughout the rpm range. They didn't mention any surging problems, but said it was better suited for a modified car that needed more air flow. :D
Re: Is the SLP MAF sensor any good? (BrightRed C5 SWFL)
I would say it's a waste of money :yesnod:
My 427' engine had 586hp on a engine dyno with a stock 2000 MAF (same size as yours). We tried a larger 2002 MAF but did not gain anything. I'm using a 2002 MAF now but not because of any performance gains but for the better design with the integrated IAT sensor.
Some people have seen gains on a dyno and some has seen losses using a aftermarket MAF no matter which brand. If you see gains with a aftermarket MAF it compensates for errors in the tuning which in most cases are a rich running condition(the aftermarket MAF makes your car run a little leaner causing the tuning to get closer to optimal)
If your car is running with a correct A/F ratio and you add a aftermarket MAF you will loose hp/tq.
Spend your money on a dyno tune with LS1-edit or similar.
