Default MT/ET Street - Launch/Traction Test

2000 C5 Coupe - 3.73 West Coast Corvette High Performance Rear End, FLP Stage IV Auto - Yank 3000 Stall, FLP Long Tube Header system - B&B PRT Exhaust W/Speedway Tips - Breathless Voertex Rammer - Stock air bridge - Be Cool Radiator - VHP Fan Controler - VHP Line lock - VHP 1.8 Rockers - VHP Valve Springs - No Cats/Sims - VHP MAF Housing - VHP Punisher Shocks - Disconnected front swaybar - FLP PCM edit - Latest Dyno at FLP 326 Rear Wheel.

Formerly ran Nitto 315 X 17 - Problem when they broke traction it was all over but the blue smoke and that made bracket drag racing a crap shoot!!!.

Roger Vinci (Vinci Hi Performance) convinced me to go with his Punisher Wheels 16" for 5" skinnies on the front and MT/ ET Streets 11.50 X 16 on the rear. He said they hold his 9 sec. Z06 stick car. I ordered a set all mounted and balanced they came in less than 5 days looked great, needed just a minor adjustment to the upper rear ball joint cap (hammer) and were ready to go. They are highly polished aluminum and weigh 58 pounds less than stock run flats, and 34 pounds less than my aluminum Grand Sport Wheels with Z06 fronts and Nittos on the back. (Nittos were heat cycled in Denver)

Went to Great Lakes Drag Away in Union Grove Wisc. (Da Grove) which is notorius for bad traction. Made 13 runs had 2 throwaways due to driver brain laps here are the amazing results:

Launch RPM Idle or 1000RPM Absolute best ET and 60' times, tested 1000 - 1200 - 1500 - 1800 - 2000. Engine actually bogged at the 2000 RPM must not like the short "flash" up to 2600 (We lock at 2600 not 3000 due to insufficient horsepower which will be corrected with heads and cam a story that is soon to be told) The Burn outs were done by rolling through the water box and lighting them up for the first two then just hazing them the rest.

60' Times : 1.811, 1.771, 1.890, 1.839, 1.841, 1.815, 1.813, 1.896, 1.816, 1.800, 1.814, 1.814 (Tire pressure starting at 16 lbs going down to 13 lbs. 13 - 14 were the absolute best choices)

ET's ranged from 12.646 to 12.497 with humidity at 78 - 82%.

Went to the "Grove" Saturday to race in their Summit Points Extraviganza and lost in the 3RD round by running 12.657 on a Dial-in of 12.65 driver error at the line (a RT of .740)

THE TIRES RAN GREAT WITH 13lbs. of AIR AND A MODERATE BURNOUT!
THESE TIRES AND WHEELS JUST HOOK AND GO, THE MOST TIRE SPIN WAS ABOUT 1/2 TURN OFF THE LINE IF ANY!

 The et streets and skinnies are certainly the way to go for some serious hooking on the street and track! Good Job! :smash:

How much would skinnies help a low 12 second bolt on car?

.1 seconds at best. Your big advantage would be to go with et streets on the rear and try to shave time off your 60 ft!

Isn't going with skinnies a little extreme for a 12 second car, if you run juice like Bruce1 at 10.89, then O.K. ET streets or drag radials are fine!

I thought the benefit of skinnies is the stability when using a bias-ply tire (like ET streets) in the rear. I tried running ET streets on the rear and 255 radials in the front on my older Supra and it was just plain scary!

THat's the exact reason i went with the skinnies. If i'm going to run mid 11s in a vert with no bar or cage, the least i can do is run bias ply rubber in front to match my et streets in the rear so i don't kiss the wall!:D

I was told by a number of "bracket racers" not to mix radials with belted tires and the ET Streets are all belted. Also as the MPH increases to 110+ the variations in the track effect the wider front tires way more than the skinnys so it makes sense to use the skinnys for that reason also. Plus if you are going to do a lot of wheelies it is easier on the drive train to lighten the front end load!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bottom line is my setup will now handle all my future mods. such as the new heads and cam that Vinci sent me and FLP are installing next week and hopefully the roll bar that came out of Ernies car (BBP) sitting in my basement out of my wifes view will be needed after next week!

Hey I forgot one very important fact since we do cruise nights about 4-5 nights a week, and about 5-6 car shows each summer, not to mention Mid-America in Effingham, Il. plus Bloomington Gold the COOLNESS RATING on SKINNYS and ET STREETS is 100+ just ask the groups of guys that collect around the car at each event!

Amen to that, i run mine full time in the summer and have over 2500 miles on my et streets and skinnines on my 98 C5 Vert and they do grab peoples attentions as i frequent many car shows myself. By the way, your in Cary, IL, tommorrow i will be a big car show in fox valley mall at steak and shake near rt 59 and ogden from about 11am to 2pm. Should be a big turnout on one of the few true summer type days left this season.!

My CRUZN C5 is sitting in my garage without a throttle body I sent it to Roger Vinci for some machining. Hopefully it will be back today or tomorrow, if not I will have to winch the vette onto my Texas Rollback Trailer to get it to FLP on Monday! If it does show up maybe I will see you at the car show! (I am the one with Two Black Stripes on my left front fender) Oh yeh Pewter/Grey/2000 Coupe/A4
