My only experience of Royal Purple was when I put in in my K1500 M/T. I thought I was "upgrading'. No difference at all from the OEM Synchromesh fluid. It's been in for some years now and this spring I will probably dump it and go back to synchromesh fluid.

GM Synchromesh Fluid is different from GM Manual Transmission Fluid, BTW. It and the Pennzoil Synchromesh fluid were designed for the New Venture manual transmissions; MTF is essentially the old GM Dex III and is what the Tremecs need.

Anyway. As others have noted, GM says Dex VI is a absolute no-no in manual trannies, and I for one am not going to risk my transmission to try to prove them wrong.

I changed mine last summer and used the GM recommended 88861800 Manual Transmission and Transfer Case Fluid. It looks just like normal red ATF fluid. It made a big improvement. I can't believe the owner's manual says the manual transmission fluid is good for life. It became much easier to find reverse on a cold start. I'll change it again in a couple years.

Agreed. Just changing old fluid really improves shifting.

p.s. I think when they say "for life", they really mean until it is out of warranty.........

Dealer said DEX VI replaced DEXIII, put in mine and it does shift better. Have about 40K on the car.

Dealer is WRONG, and an idiot who does not read the GM bulletins. DEX VI replaces DEX III ONLY for automatics. GM says do not use DEX VI in any manual trans car, as failure may result.

Manual trannies need DEX III or equivalent.

DEX IV, not DEX VI. And from everything I read this is not good as noted above. Switch to DEX III
