That said, if you have the time, why not do it yourself? You can drop $3K on a shop and get a decent set-up, or drop that same $3K on equipment only, do the install yourself and get a truly exceptional system.
That's exactly what I did in 2013...researched everything on this Forum, then called Dennis at Double D Mods (who is BY FAR the best source for all of your needs). Dennis spent tons of time educating me on choices, options, etc., then made recommendations on head units, amplifiers, door and cabin speakers, and subwoofers. I chose what I wanted, got it and then installed it all myself (using show-n-tell threads from this Forum to guide me all the way through). It's the most fun project I've ever tackled, and the most satisfying, too.
So that you know, I also did some other things while installing the stereo system: (1) proactively "fixed" the rocking chair problem that will eventually plague all C5s, (2) researched the vibration-, noise- and temperature-abatement issues that, if not addressed prior to installing your C5's new stereo system will negatively impact the sound quality of that new system, (3) selected custom leather (from 4,000 leather color and texture choices) and then had custom seat covers built, plus leather-wrapped door panels, center console, etc., (4) replaced the stock gray carpet in my car with new black carpet, (5) added Millennium Yellow gauge faces to the gauges in my instrument panel, and (5) installed LED lighting in the instrument panel, door control areas, etc. I did all of this in just over three days. Three+ days' elapsed time was all it took because I had marshalled all of the parts ahead of time.
So....at least consider something like this before you pay a local shop $750 to $1,000 in labor on a turn-key install.
