Been reading the forum for a while. I test drove a C5 at the local dealer two months ago and fell in love, but I honestly couldn't afford what he was asking.
A week later found one a salvage auction with mechanical issues and won the bid.
I bought her sight unseen and she was making a horrible knocking noise. It turns out she took a drink of water through the intake.
And with the help of this forum and all you fine people was able to rebuild the engine over the course of a month. I used a z06 cam and 799 heads..
Thanks V.J. I'm trying to make her new again. Still within a 12,000 budget. I would hate to see this car go to waste at 120,000 miles. As an old school builder, this car is a dream to work on.
I/m keeping it mostly stock. I'm wondering if the A4 drive train is up to the Z06 spec engine (3.15 gears). That sure that sounds mild to most of you. I'm not a racer. Just like a nice street cruiser.
Mine is a coupe with an A4. I built the engine as an LS6.
I live near the beach in Jacksonville Fl. Traffic is horrible and an automatic reduces driving fatigue. Otherwise I would have got one with a manual trans.
I want to drive this car so bad I can taste it. I have only test driven one and past a cop, and had to slow down.
I'm keeping this pretty close to stock. The horse power and torque is enough for now.
You have to be real careful when racing people today. You may pull up to an old dorky looking '79 Ford Fairmont with quiet exhaust. Then you find out it has 1,200 hp. I don't want to play that game.
