Looks like the LS6 GEN III head PN 12564824 is a complete assembly using the LS6 casting built to the 2002 LS6 specs ( ie.. sodium valves, 2002 valve springs, etc...). Also offered is the GEN III Aluminum racing head. Production LS6 head that has been CNC ported part # 12480176.
I saw in the latest Vette magazine under new products
the LS6 "gen 3" heads. Anyone have any more info
on these?
Thanks
Gen 3 means 3rd generation of chevy small block V8, which is what the LS1 (and LS6) are.
Those heads are just regular old LS6 heads, the same as what comes on a Z06 from the factory.
Hrm. The product review I read said it had a higher compression rate and some other changes (of course, mag is at home when I need to quote). It's in november vette if anyone has it to quote.

Maybe they mean they have a higher compression ratio and other changes relative to LS1 heads. That, or they are ported and milled for higher compression.
My first post really meant to say that "gen 3" is nothing special.
