Default 99+ harness in a 97-98

I have a 98 m6 car. Last year I put in an 01 m6 pcm and I repinned my 98 harness. At that time I cut out 02s, maf, egr wires etc. with this new turbo kit I want to build I'll be needing my 02s. I wanted to start with a nice new fresh harnes so u got a harness out of a 99 m6. The harness plugged into everything perfectly except one plug. On the harness side it's a circle and the far side it's a rectangle. I've narrowed it down and am positive that it goes to the bcm. I'm looking to swap the rectangle plug from my old harness to my new one to be able to plug into the car. Has anyone done this? Or does anyone make an adapter? I'm sure I'm not the first one to put a 99+ harness in a 97-98. Thanks so much!

I asked the seller to double check and he told me its for sure a manual harness. i have nothing else to refer to. the plug goes to the bcm tho, not to the trans.

I looked at the FSM DVD and there are no inline connector views for a 98 so I can't find the car side connector to see what it is.

Get the manual VM and then go through the schematics and try to figure it out.

The round connector appears to have some misc wires like cruise, AC sensor, TC signals, speed signals etc. I'm not sure any of the wires go to the BCM but they do go into the cabin.

you could be right. the car will start and run for a few seconds and die. most of the gauges don't work and "service traction control, engine, etc" are all on the dash as well as reduced power mode.

I'll try to help but I need to know how many pin locations are in each connector and what are the number of the various wire colors in each connector. I assume the rectangular connector is original to your 98.

I think this is the 99 plug.

The manual I have has no views for the 98 wiring so I can't find it.

That is correct for 99 but I can't find the 98 connector either. You have 2 extra system wires in the 99 harness.

Suggest you talk to Marc at VetteNuts.net for the correct 98 harness.

Is your car early 98 with rear mounted EBTCM or late 98 with front mounted EBTCM?

That's likely the difference. Your car has wiring from the cabin/PMC going to the rear harness for the EBTCM and a newer model has the same wires going to the front harness.

If you look through the other connectors you've plugged in, is there one or more that doesn't match wire for wire on each side.

I'm thinking you'll find there are 9 wires in the 99 harness not going anywhere which match colors of the ones in the mystery connector. Either that or a complete mismatch of wires between other connectors.

I'd have to check, but everything else connects except this one. the car starts and runs for about 5 seconds at a time. i haven't tried to run it any longer than that yet. that harness is different tho. it's not the engine harness that goes to that module tho, its a separate harness i think.
