I just picked up a project car with known issues, before I take it to the garage I was wondering if I could get some opinions on what the issue might exactly be.
History of the car:
The engine has been replaced , engine is around 156k mark
Transmission has been rebuilt
Rear end was rebuilt
New transmission cable
There are receipts to validate the claims but I have no idea what the actual work completed was as I have no itemized bill but the car still has issues.
When driving normal the car drives and shifts fine. You can gradually
press the accelerator and it will shift through all 4 gears. However if you are going around 45 mph and just punch the accelerator it will bang off the rev limiter and will not shift unless you back off the pedal and gradually push it down. It does the same thing with traction control on and off.
There is also a clicking noise coming from the right rear wheel, you can hear it click when backing up and moving forward. The clicking sound gets faster (not louder ) as you accelerate.
Do you guys have any ideas? I'm mechanically inclined but this is my first corvette.

Are you saying that it doesn't downshift at 45, slips and hits the rev limiter, or that it does downshift but doesn't upshift and hits the rev limiter?

I can't feel it downshifting , of course there's alot going on in those few seconds . It seems like it goes into neutral, bangs the Rev limiter. I let out and drive it normal. I still need to test it more but that's the best I can describe it until I get the power steering line fix so I can post a video.
If it isn't downshifting then it's probably slipping 3-4 clutches or the band.
If it is downshifting I would suspect that when the rear end was rebuilt the ratio was changed and the computer tune wasn't properly updated for when to shift (rpm and vehicle speed) at WOT.
Haha if your wife's name is Mary Ann then that would be even funnier . If you wanna come down I would be honored by your generosity The car will be on the lift tonight as I'm gonna start going through it and get the high pressure power steering line fixed tonight.

Check it for codes. See if one is present for the 3-2 downshift solenoid. We see this complain quite often when the wrong year transmission is installed, but that's not very likely in your C5, unless someone has swapped the valve body. If it's cutting loose on the 2-3 shift at heavier throttle, it could very well be the 3-4 clutches. They were a fragile area in the stock 4L60Es. We have to correct no less than 6 different "design flaws" in them just dedicated to the 3-4 clutches.
Worked on it some more today, first 2 pulls I did today it didn't hardly missed a beat. Slight slip between 3 to 4 .
As I continued testing 3 and 4 pull banged off the rev limiter again , all these pulls were from 40 to 75 mph.
The noise I heard from the right rear wheel is actually a clicking noise in the transmission. It doesn't get any louder only gets faster as Rpms increase .
I have an O2 code and some abs errors. Also the dash light shows the traction control light (amber color ) on . It doesn't matter if you turn the button on or off it stays illumated.

At what rpm do you hit the rev limiter? Here's is a link that describes how to pull the codes. Need to know the codes to help you out. http://www.stengel.net/diccodes.htm
HPTuners confirmed the PCM was commanding a downshift into 2nd and after some banging off of the rev limiter the tranny settled down and started pulling through the 2nd gear WOT rev range. Line pressure solenoid current was reduced during this period as expected. We noted that a 3rd-1st downshift operated as expected.
I agree thumpinc5 that there may be an issue with the 3-2 solenoid. To me it seems as if the band is taking a while to firmly engage but when it does all seems well.

Thanks for all the help Greg , I appreciate you taking time to help me out . Hope you and your wife enjoyed the drive . I still havent made it to the transmission shop , once work allows me to leave at a reasonable time during the week it's my first stop ! I've been looking at the diagrams and I don't know if I'm confident enough to tear it apart just yet, hopefully after the shop visit I will feel a little better about it. I've been driving it daily so it hasn't got any worse.
Here are the list of codes so far :
C1225 front wheel excessive wheel speed variation history
C1287 steering sensor rate history
C1288 steering sensor circuit
P1133 heated oxygen sensor
I also have the service traction control warning message across the dash.

Mine did the same thing today. But I stretched my tranny cable. And the car thinks it's in 3Rd when I put it in drive. Banged off 6500 when it down shifted when I matted it at 60. You may have screwed your tranny cable. My car will shift normally then at wot see that the car is set in 3rd. Preventing an overdrive feature.
