Not sure what to do. The cap turns but hits the stop and won't pull off. Seems I've had it off before, this sucks I can't add oil. Guess i'll take it to my mech.

Went thru something similar with mine. While twisting (back and forth), keep pulling up.....it works.
OK it takes some wigglin' and jigglin' but it will come off. There is a small tab built into the neck, the tab engages a slot when you turn the cap. the cap will come off slick a couple times.. and then either jam or stick and won't come off without some finessing . At least I now the trick. Thanks all for the input.
I am glad you didn't have to take it to the shop . As also one with a low skill set in corvette repair, the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step of removing a stuck oil cap.

Yr ago when I did a cam replace while the motor was apart my orig cap was swiped for another car. This cap is a plain black replacement. Might be the reason it doesn't work quite right.
So I see this has been answered. But it just happened to me. Thus my joining in the discussion just in case a newbie has the same issue. Hopefully I can post a pic. I too had trouble. I turned the cap ccw about a quarter turn and it stopped. Tried it again. Something. Finally I twisted a bit harder and it went a little more and then it raised upwards. So it is NOT threaded on my '04. And it has an O ring. However why it stopped too soon I don't know but keep at it. Once you get it then pull straight up.
