technique on installing tranny
I am wondering what is the easiest way to install the tranny? On my previous attempt I had the tranny lined up with the bellhousing and the splines matched up. Once I was at this step there was 1/2" gap between the cases. I tried wiggling and pushing the tranny toward the motor but the 1/2" gap still remained. I started a bolt on the bottom hole and once it was 2 turns in I started the next 2 bolts up. Once those bolts were 2 turns in I added the top bolts. After all the bolts had 2 turns I worked my way around the housing tightening the bolts 2 turns until the cases were together. I think the slave was the reason that the tranny would not simply push together. Any tricks?

Everytime I have seen it done at MTI, they have the tranny, diff and tq. tube together and raise it up into the car. They usually have to rotate and/or shake the assembly some to get the splines fully mated into the clutch after the shaft is already all lined up. They always get it completely together before starting the bolting process...no gaps. I wish I knew more.
