I need to buy a new clutch asap and I want one that can handle around 430- 450 rwhp N/A and a 150 shot on top of that. I just ordered the McLeod adjustable master cylinder and Z06 slave cylinder. I like the Cartek and Mcleod dual disk but I don't want to spend $1000 on a clutch right now. What other options do I have that are cheaper? I am leaning towards the Spec Star carbon clutch but I read a few posts about them not holding up. I also noticed that just about every negative post on the Star blamed the stock hydrolics for the clutch failure. Will I be ok with McLeod ad/master, Z06 slave, & Star carbon? Thanks in advance.
This is 1 of the big issues GM has mess up on when designing the C5.
Granted, they made a quantum leaf from the C4 but the clutch and brakes are my big :mad issues. (and I even had a defective oil pump that required my engine to be rebuilt, but that's the crap shoot you take with GM. I don't put it in my "issues" basket)
The Z06 slave doesn't solve the sticking clutch issue or the restrictor issue (which may or may not be a part of the problem). Geez a grand for a clutch is a lot of jack!
I'm going to put a Centerforce Dual Friction clutch in mine. It's a $500 piece but I don't do drag racing, just road racing and an occasional stop light burnout.
I should be pushing above 500 fwhp so I think, for my application, the Centerforce will be a good setup.
Unfortunately I don't think we have found a solution for the sticking pedal / slipping clutch issue.
. . . Granted, they made a quantum leaf from the C4 but the clutch and brakes are my big :mad issues.
Gary -- I'm totally with you on the clutch, but what's been your issue on the brakes? Is it warped rotors? If so, I hope that's been resolved in the newer years?
As an aside, I had a C4 and I recall on the C4 forum that folks constantly acknowledged, and I readily experienced, that the brakes were so pathetic that you had to keep additional distance between yourself and the car in front of you at a stop light. Indeed, I screwed this up once and tapped the trailer hitch on a pickup in front of me. :nopity :cuss It took a nice big chunk out of my front piece.
One rule of thumb for buying High Performance automotive parts... always buy the highest quality you can afford. People thought I was nuts buying the DD Mcleod... Even with a stock engine it is a big diff between a DD and a SD believe me. I am only 3 discs away from John Force. ;) Best of luck to you with your Clutch decision. :)

Steve,
My issues with the brakes are not they don't stop well, they do. but on a road course, under heavy braking situations, the 2 piston calipers wear the pads in a tapper.
Pad tapper means that the front edge of the pad wear much more than the back. This creates a very spongy pedal. It makes it seem like the system needs to be bled but it doesn't.
Porsche & BMW put Brembo calipers on their cars. These are 4-6 piston calipers that apply force evenly along the pad.
GM (PBR's) 2 piston calipers (and the 2 piston being the same size hurts also) put most of the force on the front half of the pad which also creates more rotor heat, and thus wear.
many posts in the racing section on this but that's it in a nut shell.
there is recently some talk about an "affordable" brake package upgrade, which looks promising. Currently a big brake package upgrade is around $6,500.
You are in the exact position I was in. I have 431 rwhp and I was getting dead pedal. LGMotorsports put in their high performance custom clutch that would take up to I think 800 RWHP and some plus they also put in custom cylinders. I have since put on a 150 shot and it takes it with no trouble. Very much recommended since its a single disc and it doesn't chatter.
