Default Removing climate control unit....

When I bought my car the LCD screen was dim, but I was dealing with it....now it is completely out.... so my next project is removing it for repair..... looks like a major pain.... I have read several threads about it.... can anyone who has done this give me any pointers or heads up on anything I need to know before jumping in to it?? Does the piece with traction control and ride control just pop right out? Are there any plastic tabs that I need to be careful with? And another big question I haven't seen is do I need to remove the shift boot, or is there a way to? It's an auto.... I've seen the M6's boot pulls right off, but haven't found anything on the auto's......

TIA,
DeL

Use search, the job is very easy and the traction control pops right out.

Definitely search. I've had my console apart so many times I can do it in less than 15 minutes. It is really simple.

It's easier if you have a manual transmission.

I used this video for reference to remove my stereo for the AUX mod. The HVAC head is exposed as well with only 2 screws to remove.

If you have a vert you will need to remove the cascade element first (4 torx screws hold it on). Do this BEFORE disconnecting the battery or you won't get your rear hatch to pop (don't ask how I know this )
Nothing should take any serious amount of force either.

Ya, that's one of the videos I watched! Just hoping it's that easy, and still confused on if the shift boot and all separates on an auto or how to get around it since I don't have the luxury of a M6.....

the shifter boot stays put when you remove the center console bezel. One thing that does help is, when your ready to remove the bezel it helps to move the shifter down to neutral so you can pull the bezel back towards the rear of the car so it can clear the center structure.

Like Macleod52 said, do it enough and you can remove it in 15 minutes or less It's really that easy !

Remember to move the shifter to neutral before you disconnect the battery. You can't get the bezel out with it in park.

I did mine a few weeks ago. Easy as can be. Just follow the instructions in the video. Be sure to pull straight back on the dash bezel. If you pull it sideways at all before it comes completely free of the dash you can snap off a post that goes into the dash. Don't ask how I know this.

You all are awesome! Hopefully gonna get it out Sunday to ship it off Monday! Thanks for the warning, that's the only other thing I'm scared of is not seeing one off before and don't know if there are any plastics insert tabs or anything to be broken when pulling off.....

just about everything comes of fairly easy, at least mine did. anytime I got to a point where I started applying more than a little pressure I stopped and took another look and tried a different angle, or lifted the wheel or moved the seat, or something like that. the main console cover came out real easy.

Ok..... I have the car apart, but I can't figure out how to unplug the passenger side air bag light wire and it's hanging the piece up where I can't get it off, I got the gray push pin out of the connector, and it looks like there's a black tab, but I push it in and still no luck

Not sure what you mean got the pin out. Not supposed to remove any pins. just supposed to push the tab to release the plug and pull it out. You have photos you can show?

I got it! Poor choice of words.... it's not a pin, it's a little gray push tab that comes out completely, then there is another black tab to push in to remove..... have the HVAC out so I can ship it out tomorrow!

Nice going. You were smart to take a step back and assess the situation. Better to do that than rush through and snap something off!!
