Oil from somewhere around the oil filter. I was out for a good rip last night and then again this afternoon. When I backed the car out to give it a wash I noticed 2 small patches of oil on the floor. I reached under and felt around the oil filter sure enough...... oil on the filter. Why after nearly 4000 km would the filter start to leak? I am going to get some ramps and take a closer look. Anything else besides the oil filter that I should be checking??
Hello Shaky, I found out mistake that if the oil filter were over-tightened they would leak a very small amount. Some of these guys in the oil pits will use a oil filter wrench to tighten them up.........only hand tight..........follow the instructions on the box
If it didn't just loosen up, maybe it ruptured a seam in the filter. I think I'd play it safe and replace the filter.....since it already has 4K miles on it anyway.
It might not hurt to keep a close eye on the oil pressure and be sure that it isn't going way high, due to a malfunctioning check valve.
Thanks for your respones Stan and Mark. I was on my way to buy a set of ramps and I did a quick check to make sure the filter hadn't just backed off. Sure enough the filter was just barely on finger tight. So I'm off to pick up an oil filter wrench and find out how tight the filter should be put on.
