Default Car shutting off when AC on
So yesterday I noticed the car had a really rough idle with the AC on. Now as soon as I turn the AC on the car dies and a loud screeching sound comes from under the hood. I parked the car overnight and it would idle and the AC would blow until the car warmed up, now same symptoms. Any ideas? The AC blows nice and cool when its working.

sounds like the compressor is locking up ???? not good !!!!

Yeah tell me about it. I just spent 2500 getting the trans rebuilt and two days R&Ring it. This thing is more expensive than my BMW.

Take the belt off for the A/C..See if it one of the other pulley's

They should spin with little drag on them...Don't just Assume it is the compressor

I'd guess AC compressor has crapped itself. You can get them rebuilt sometimes.

that's when the clutch engages and turns the compressor, with it off it just freewheels on the pulley

I've had similar issues, but the screeching under the hood was one of our cats
The fix was to remove all remaining parts and euthanize what was left... try to keep cats out of shop and garage
