Wondering if someone more educated than me could take a guess at where this leak my be on my 97. From what I've researched I would guess the timing chain cover first before the crank seal or oil pan. As much oil as I've lost if the crank seal was bad wouldn't the balancer be covered more? Not sure if that even matters, you probably can't replace the cover seal without taking the balancer/rack out anyway right?
As for the oil pan, the rear of the pan is still dry so would have thought the oil would have traveled around it by now but thats just my speculation.
I'm still debating if I want to tackle this myself. Are the needed parts just the cover seal and crank seal (and new balancer bolt)? I've seen that alignment tool from Saccity Corvette which I would probably pickup. Also a new balancer, seen others recommend the PowerBond OEM ?
Worth replacing anything else like the water pump when doing this? 140k on the car and I assume the motor. I've had it for a year now while this leak has gradually gotten worse. Thanks for any ideas/suggestions.
If you can't trace where its coming from you will need to do some cleaning to find where its coming from. I don't see where its coming from by looking at your pictures.
