I recently installed a pair of red and white "export" tail lights on my C5. The 3 wire tail light sockets for the brake / running light plug right into the top (red) portion of the export tail light lens, no problem.
Unfortunately the reverse light sockets found on each side of the license plate can't be directly be plugged into the lower (white) portion of the export lenses. Even if the wire is lengthened enough to reach, the three "teeth" of the reverse lamp socket don't quite match up with the hole pattern in the white portion of the lens no matter how you rotate it!
How do I find the right size / shape socket for this lens? Are these "sized" somehow in a manner that can deciphered - or do I have to try out a whole bunch of generic ones from NAPA to find one that finally fits?
The tail light assembly uses a 3157 socket, the backup lamp assembly uses a 1157 socket. To achieve your desired result, purchase new 3157 sockets with pigtails, next, if you want bright backup lights, purchase 80W CREE LED 3157 bulbs off E-Bay or Amazon. Use the fold over and crimp connectors to splice the pigtails from the new sockets to the wires from the current backup lamp sockets.
Should be good to go.
