Default TPMS relearn procedure

Hi everyone,

I had a failing front right tire pressure monitor so I ordered a new sensor on Amazon (ACDelco) and had it installed.

But the dumb thing won't program at all. They tried at the shop and I've tried by going around with a magnet.

I'm wondering if I need to do some trick to get the dumb thing to turn on? Or did I just get unlucky and get one with a totally dead battery?

Thanks for any help.

Did you get the right one for your year? The early and later ones are not interchangeable with the receiver in the car.

This is the one I got:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Amazon said it was the right one for my car!

So you have a 2001 to 2004 Corvette if so the sensor should program with a magnet. Follow the procedures in your owners manual.

But the new sensor doesn't trigger with a magnet. The other three do.

That's why I'm wondering if there's some way to turn the new one on?

Thanks.

I have a 2002 Corvette.

My brother bought it new and babied it in a ridiculous fashion. His bare hands never touched the steering wheel. Then he sold it to me about 10 years ago.

Does this mean if the magnet isn't activating it that it probably has a dead battery?

Thanks.

You can also buy a donut type magnet at Home Depot that would fit around the valve stem. They are pretty cheap and may work.

I went out and tried again.

I used both the circular magnet made for the job that I have and a huge magnet.

The circular magnet trained the front left no problem, but got stuck on the front right again.

Then I tried my super magnet (it's replacing my Amazon link with a Home Depot link but I think it's the same):
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And that did the same thing. Trained the front left no problem and stuck on the front right.

Is there some procedure that might turn the dumb thing on? Like putting it in some sort of learn mode and then letting air in and out of the tire?

Thanks.

I assume you are using the relearn process through the DIC.

It is possible you got a dud sensor...
It is also possible it got over torqued and broke.
You don't need to install the sensor to test it..
BUT once it programs & not mounted in the rim.... the car will think it has a flat.

The system is pretty dumb so it wants to SEE 4 sensors ( one at a time ) but you could have 4 in your lap.. and it will register them in the order presented.

The magnet closes a switch in the sender, which turns on a battery, which starts the data stream for the receiver to grab...

If your magnets are training all the other sensors, I would have to say the one sensor is bad. Here is a thought though - try driving the car for a few minutes, then try the training process again. If that doesn't work, I'd suggest returning the one sensor for a replacement. And when that comes in, do the training procedure before you actually install the sensor in the wheel to make sure it will sync to the car.

I just drove around for several minutes then tried the learning again and still no luck.

It's sad, but I now remember how to put it in tire learning mode without even watching the video!

You're sure you got a magnetic TPMS and not one of those radio TPMS?
