Default Any 97 Owners?

I am looking for 97 Owners to get some of their tech issues. 97's are a little different bird. My biggest question is what does your dic read as the voltage on your car. What is the voltage with the a/c on? What is the maximum voltage when all is off?

The alternator on a 97 is putting out only 110 amps while the later models are putting out 145 amps. I am wondering if this makes a difference. I believe Mr. Sam [we all miss him] said that it was changed in later model 98's and that information can be found in the stickies.

I am also wondering if there are issues unique to a 97 or early 98. Just fishing for answers.

Pops.

I have a 97. From what I've been told, the alternator is very picky for this year. If you replace it the new one must be identical. Most say just have the one on the car rebuilt if it goes out. 110 amps is plenty for a stock car. My voltage always reads on the low side. 12.9 to 14.1 max. It has never showed 14.4 volts. They do make a kit (the big three) to help bring up the voltage. I would feel better if it read 14.4 but my lights never dim and it always starts right away.

Mine hovers around 13.6 and will at times go to 14.1. The Alternator reads 14.1 so I know the battery is getting plenty of charge. When I turn on lights, a/c, brakes, turn signals etc. it will drop to 13.2 and then return to the 13.5 / 13.6 range. Is that consistent with you? I have a 98 as well and it is always at a 14.1 unless everything is on and it drops to a 13.6 at its worst.

Hey Pops... dang it's HOT today... Our 04 on the trip in Colorado would vary 13.6 to 14.2 depending on what was on, RPM, etc... I think that is pretty normal... Your neighbor to the North

Was in your neck of the woods the other day. Had to go to Wakita just to go to Wakita. Met the proprietors of the museum. Good vette folks.

You 04 is running 145 amps and the 97 is running at 110 amps. That amperage would mean the drag down would be greater simply because of what is on. Can't get it to 14.2 volts. Oh well if it runs, drive it!

I was curiously looking at my voltage readings today too while driving, and it's over 13 most of the time. Sometimes the voltage does go under 13, meaning 12.X.
