Full on race car, no interior, or dash Always turn off traction control
Inside got wet and ruined BCM - getting NO COMM message.
I have zero use for the BCM itself, more of an inconvenience, i would rather have an ignition switch and started button anyways, wiring in cabin is a fricken mess, and needs to be cleaned, good time to fix it all.
This i have read about removing BCM...
The VATS system tells the BCM key is there which allows PCM to start car?
lt.blue wire from brake switch needs removed to keep ABS
starter relay needs power from a starter switch
fuel pump relay needs power from a switch
So if i remove the BCM, what else needs to be done to make the car start?
You might get a better response posting in the Autocross Road Racing Section. You will probably find more people that have done what you are trying to do. The average Corvette owner isn't going to be deleting the BCM.
Just to give you an idea of the work your in for here is a thread showing BCM delete on a C6. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-race-car.html
Various things like the starter, a bunch of lighting, hatch/trunk release etc are routed and controlled via the BCM. You would have to bypass or re-wire every circuit you wanted to work.
The BCM sends a signal to the PCM telling it the car can start. So, you would have to get the PCM reprogrammed to remove the VATS.
I'm pretty sure the PCM controls the fuel pump so that one isn't an issue.
You really need to get the schematics and go through the circuits. I hope you're decent with wiring because it's not a simple task and I'm doubting anyone would walk through every BCM circuit wire by wire with an explanation of what you need to do.
At one point Chevrolet Performance sold a PCM to drop an LS1 into a restomod or similar. Might be easier to acquire one than try to deal with what you have.
Thanks for the replies. I'll try the roadracing section. Looks like a guy did a C6 which i looks way more intrusive.
I can do it all from schematics, but figured i would ask for some guidance before i dive in.
well life keeps getting in my way, so this hasn't gotten any attention. If i get a new BCM (off EBAY, mine is trash) do the re-learn procedure, will the car run without issue?
Kind of depends upon what you have done or not done to the ability of the key pellet to be read correctly. The re-learn procedure is done so that the BCM and PCM have a common password for the VATS system based on the resistance of the key pellet used in the procedure. The resistance of the key pellet needs to be read by the sensor inside the key cylinder or a resistor equal in value to the resistance of the pellet put in the circuit to the BCM so that the BCM enables the Theft Deterrent Relay. Without the correct resistance being seen by the BCM the TDR does not get enabled and the engine does not crank.
Alternatively as mentioned in post #3 above the VATS can be programmed out of the PCM.
Yes, i still have the proper key for the car, and the ignition switch is in place, so should be plug, re-learn and play?
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
