So my car makes a mild squel when put under load under 3000rpm. It sounds like a bearing or pulley. My mechanic has replaced all the pulleys (under aftertermarket warranty) but it still makes the noise. He also replaced the tensioner under the TSB. It's a 1999, since it doesn't squel while idling I can't figure out how to isolate it... Any ideas?
Also, I suspect that the F45 switch isn't working and is stuck on Sport. What can I do to verify that the suspension is indeed changing? Dealer visit?
I recently had to replace the bearings/clutch assembly under the air conditioning pulley on my Firebird. I thought the noise was coming from the alternator, but when I pulled the belt off, I knew the play in the A/C pulley could not possibly be right.
Had to pay a couple hundred bucks to fix an A/C that doesn't work anyways.
This is just one of the many possible sources of what you hear. Replacing the pulleys is pretty easy, but is unlikely to fix the problem. More likely it is a bad bearing SOMEWHERE under there.
mine did that too....it was the belt. And a NEW GM belt didn't really fix it, it just changed the problem. I put a Goodyear Batorback belt on and all was well. :smash:
If the F45 shocks were malfunctioning you would see messages on the DIC like "shocks inoperative - max speed 80mph".
