I recently bought a 2002 corvette and the drivers Airbag was deployed so I replaced it, the guy that is helping me said that I had to buy another SDM since mine does not work. I bought it used from a Web site that sales c5 used parts it was pulled from a car that did not deploy airbags. The thing is I put it on my car but I'm still getting the airbag light, I read on the forum that this is due to the vin stored inside the SDM does not match the one on the PCM. Now my question is Can the dealer fix this with their computers or do I have to spend 400+ on a new Module?. Thanks for your help
You might want to verify exactly what code is causing the SIR light to be on. Might be more than one condition. There are about a dozen different codes. Pull the codes and the one(s) that pertain to the SIR light are listed under 58 - SDM..
If you have never pulled codes on a C5 here is how:
The module actual number and the one programmed into the PCM do not match. Need to know the number of the installed module and then with an appropriate scan tool program this number into the PCM.
Could try to get a dealer to do it but I suspect they will not do it for you since they might consider it a liability they could have to face if your used module were to not inflate in an accident.
Try them but don't be surprised if they decline.... JMHO
So if I get a new module do I just plug it in or do I still have to program something
