Which Homelink rolling code module to buy for a sunvisor
I'm rebuilding some sunvisors and it was suggested to install a Homelink. I've read some have rolling codes and some don't. How can one tell the difference between them? I've seen the ones on Ebay with the 3 buttoms and the oval bezel that look like they would work. I might look at Pick n Pull but want a rolling code model. Here's a link to the thread where I'm rebuilding the sunvisors.
The ones with a graphic of the gable end of a house on the bezel are rolling code transmitters. There may be others that will work but I have no idea how to be sure. I've done this twice (putting a transmitter in the sun-visor), using the "house on the bezel" as an indication it does rolling codes and both were successful.

I'm rebuilding some visors which the internal fiber boards for both visors are broken. The link to the thread is in the first post. Since I'm using plastic for the board I'd thought I'd use plastic instead of cardboard to glue the outer covering to. And, I thought I'd maybe use vinyl or leather as the covering and as suggested, install a Homelink. The problem I see using the typical 3 button Homelink that someone else had used in their stock visors is the bulkiness it creates but is hidden quite well with the fabric covering. Using vinyl or leather, I would think, might not look as good. Some of the visors I've seen use a Homelink cover that is attached to the outside of the visor and looks almost as large as a pack of cigarettes. I'm wondering if that is the style of Homelink I need if using a vinyl or leather cover. Any comments are appreciated.

Sent you some info in the other post you have active on this subject. Looking at that surface mounted unit, I'd just keep my actual small 3 button homelink control that came with the garage door opener than hang that big homelink unit onto the visor.

Originally, I wasn't going to install a Homelink but it seems like a popular request when people are buying replacement visors in fabric or leather. Considering the effort I'm going through in research and labor I want to make something that will contribute to the forum. If it was simple everybody would do it. I've only seen a view threads, and good ones, on rebuilding visors. Not sure if it's really worth doing but I like these type of projects.

Art, keep on going, the only way you and the rest of us find out if it works is through the efforts you put into the project.
I found this link very interesting. It removes the buttons from the Homelink module and relocates them. Although this is in the console it is another approach to the space issue. I wonder if it can be done to a visor. It certainly reduces the thickness of the visor by just using the re-located buttons. Hmmmmm.
On fleabay, most of the Homelink ads will tell you if they are rolling codes for sale. I bought one recently for 20 something dollars. Installation wasn't too difficult, just a little time consuming, some soldering and then resewing it closed (done by hand). Works great, worthwhile addition. My remote would constantly vibrate, driving me crazy, plus I really wasn't happy with it velcroed to the under dash panel. Best of all, it looks factory installed.
