It appears that my right tank fuel level sensor is gone. I have tried all the usual cures to no avail. The gas gauge drops to 0 at 3/4 tank. A code reset brings it back only to drop to 0 after driving a short distance.
I have a 01. I know the 04s you have to drop the tank. Can I do replace it without dropping the tank? Any videos or how to's that you can share?
You do not have to drop the tank. You DO have to have the tank levels down. Once the fuel level is down, disconnect the battery and remove the right wheel. There are a few fasteners holding the tank shield. Once off, there are 6 or 8 fasteners holding the jet pump and fuel sender in place. Remove the external fuel lines and pull out the pump
If the description sounds simplistic, it is because the job is very straight forward. Just make sure your fuel level is low. I had to replace both pumps and just drove the car until almost out of fuel. Had to calculate the fuel left by tracking mileage. I carried a gas can when I got close to the end just in case I miscalculated.

yes, just remove the pump and the level sender is on the side of the bucket... it's a fairly easy job, I'm sure there is a write up somewhere to remove the pump... I want to say lingenfelter used to have a write up but I'm not 100% sure... just make sure to drain out all the fuel you can, what I like to do is disconnect the shrader valve if you have stock rails or if not just take off the feed line in the engine bay, connect a hose onto the end of the rail or feed line with the other end in a gas can, turn the key to the "on" position, and jump the fuel pump relay in the engine bay fuse box... the pump will stay running and just leave it on until you can't get any more fuel out

I thought that there was only one fuel pump and that was in the left tank. I just want to replace the right tank fuel level sender.

yeah didn't catch that, I thought you were referring to the driver side... it's pretty much the same thing but there isn't a pump and bucket on the passenger side, I believe the level sender is the same as the one in the driver tank... you still need to drain as much fuel from the tanks as possible and even when you think it's all out it will still most likely make a mess

The unit on the passenger's side includes a siphon pump (non powered) that uses a small stream of fuel from the driver's side to activate it and pump fuel from right to left.

During reassembly, be VERY careful when reattaching the 6 sender mounting bolts/screws. Use the criss-cross pattern shown in the instructions. You don't EVEN want to think about striping/over torqueing.
If you get new gasket, it comes with 6 (Delco includes 1 extra) new fasteners. IIRC, the AC Delco unit comes with a new gasket.

I just did the right side, fairly easy. Try to get gas down as low as possible to what I thought was 1/4 tank. I jacked up back right only about a gallon came out but be prepared for spillage.
Bought an AC Delco off Amazon, new gasket, but no breakaway to torque bolts, just did about 7 ft lbs by hand feel in a criss cross pattern.
There is a metal shield you need to lower - i was able to do it by just flexing it a little, could not get the top bolt off.
So far so good no leaks, working gas gauge for 2 months!
