I had a rat get into my c5 convertible and chew on one of the buttons on the stereo. Can they be removed and replaced with another one or do I have to replace the unit? I have solved the rat problem, but still have some of the plastic on the button chewed off which has lots of light coming out of it.

They can be replaced individually, but not from the dealer, etc. Give Marc a call at Vettenuts.net. He probably has some for sale, or check Ebay. They're all over the place there. Even the aftermarket company Dorman makes a new replacement set. Part #76849 Amazon sells them as well as numerous sources.
FYI: A number of GM vehicles besides Corvette, including trucks, use the same radios and the ***** are exactly the same. This is NOT a special "Corvette" radio. They (the round ones at least) all pull straight off. Easy peasy.
To replace the stereo button... after you have finished phase one ... pictured below...find a comfortable spot with good lighting and pull the **** off of the radio shaft...
replace all the parts in reverse order and enjoy the stereo...

I am not quite as far as you were in the picture, but in a couple more hours I could be.
THANK God that's NOT my car, I just copied and pasted it... might be a slight over kill for swapping out a control button, but thought you might find it amusing... I don't do much kidding around in the tech section, but every now and then a little levity breaks up the techiness... is that a word?
