I am not sure for your model but the '02 Z06 airbox lid and paper filter were an improvement for me on my '01 Coupe. I was swayed by the Blackwing and a great price but so little or no further gain...My conclusion is the '02 Z06 airbox cover is worth the 46 and change from Ken Fichtner on this Forum and possibly a couple more with the K&N filter...Blackwing is great but at least 4 times the cost...You decide.
As for the MAF screen (straightener) many '01 guys complained of surging when removing the screen...I know there are those who will tell you that the screen was removed on the Z06 but not the others, why??? Hmmmm, maybe the computer wasn't calibrated for this removal on the other cars...I dunno but mine is still in. :chevy :seeya
Same here for me, I too started off with the 02 LS6 lid and K&N filter. Noticed a stronger car over 3500 RPM's. No dyno numbers to prove SOTP. I also removed my MAF screen and that's where I really noticed an improvement. But my car was running real rich - my AFR's were down to 10.9:1 above 5200 RPM's. Removing the screen can cause some drivability issues on some cars. My 99 responded favorabily, your may not. A word of caution, if you go this route and your car doesn't like it you'll be out looking for a new/used MAF.
I have since installed the Blackwing and there wasn't any appreciable SOTP gains over the LS6 lid. I just got a good deal on the BW plus it looks sexy.
For about $50 shipped the LS6 lid is an effective and safe mod. I'd keep the paper filter too.
