I was about to get an oil change today until the mechanic suggested that i go with 0W30 Mobile one oil instead of 5W30, He said that this would add horse power because it is a little thinner and it will have less resistense on my engine. is this true? has anyone done this? and is there any side affects to this?
thanks!!!
I got some ocean front property in Nevada if your interested i'll give you a good deal on it
Hey! There is ocean front property in Nevada. In fact, my house is one of them.....as soon as the big earthquake hits Kalifornia and sink the whole state. :jester  :jester
:nono: :nono: Not good, a thinner oil will not lubricate parts effectively in our big engines, especially in your climate (Fla). Oil should be thick enough to coat the parts while in motion, and cling on when your not moving. I wouldn't go lower. As a matter a fact, you may want to go thicker, just during the summer time.
I would only use what the service manual recommends and the is
SAE 5W-30 (prefered) from 0 degress to plus 100 and also SAE 10W-30 from 0 degress to plus 100 degress. Remember engine oil viscosity has an effect on fuel economy and cold weather operation. When choosing an engine oil viscosity, consider the range of temperature the vehicle will be operated in before the next oil change. Then select the recommended oil viscosity. To me unless you drive your C5 in below zero temp, I would stay away from SAE 0W-30. Just my $.02 cents...... :chevy :seeya
Thanks for the advise. I didn't think it sounded like a good idea either thats why i got on here and asked. I am going to stick with the 5W30. Thanks!!!!
Welcome to the Forum! I generally agree with what has been said; however, I run Amsoil Series 2000, 0-30W without problem. It is designed for cars that usually have 5- and 10-30W recommended, and is a superior synthetic. :yesnod: :)
Your mechanic is correct. 0-30W will give you a slight increase in HP and will aid in cooling. Thin oil cools better than thick oil. Read your owners manual. If ambient temperatures are too high then you will want to use 5-30W per owners manual.
