I have 97K on my 02 Vert and never changed the fuel filter. I can find no mention in the manual, but figure it's about time. How often are these supposed to be replaced?
Thanks.
I just had mine changed car had 67K and engine was starting to surge at higher RPM. Shop stated it was an original (1998) and I saw they had a hard time getting off. Shop recommended change every 30K. New filter car runs fine now.
I've changed them several times in 115,000 miles, whenever something required removal of the exhaust to make it easy and at about 30,000 miles the old filters were already restrictive. The manual doesn't state a time to change the filter even at 100,000 miles which is about 5000 gallons of gas filtered.

Mine was never replaced on my car and I also started to have surging at low rpm's so I replaced it and shook the filter and the dirtiest brown/black gas came out of the filter. After replacing it and running the car for about 20 miles the surge was gone and it ran a little better. I will be replacing it every 25K from now on
OP, I think I would go ahead and change the fuel filter with that many miles on the car.
an "on jack stands driveway job?" Do you have the PN for an 02 filter. Somehow I got the idea the filters were in the tank on one or both of the pumps. I am guilty of out of sight out of mind on this one.

AC Delco GF822 on my '02 vert
It was about $70. There was post here recently stating a price less than $35 but I never got a response on source.
If you can get under the car using ramps or stands you can change the filter.
.....you need to get it up high enough to get your body plus some maneuvering room under the frame. The filter is tucked up inside the frame and you don't have much space. Then, when you pop it off, you get gas on yourself, even if you have de-pressurized the system.
BTW, I found that the "tool" they sell to release the clips was worthless - used pliers.
One of the times I was glad I did not have a later year car with the filter in the tank.

Have a '04 with 196K miles and original fuel filter. No problems. Had a '99 with 394K miles and changed the filter once. What a pita to do it.
