I'm going to be replacing a balancer and fixing a front cover leak in the near future. While I'm in that area working its been suggested that I replace the oil pump and possible timing chain on my wife's higher mile (153,000) 2000, automatic convertible.
I'm toying with a cam swap while I'm in there. Any suggestions? This is a good weather commuter for the wife, she would prefer a smooth idle, but I'd like to add some horsepower. Would an LS6 cam be a given or is a better grind out there? The car has 3.15 gears and stock converter.
Thanks for any advice in advance!

From my limited experience with automatics it'll be hard to go even mildly aggressive with the stock stall. The car will bog. Even a 2200-2600 stall would REALLY wake the car up. With that said you always cam an automatic around its converter, not the other way around.
I hate automatics with a passion but it's a kick in the pants having a stall in a car with a nice cam.

way back when, I had a 220/220/581/581 on a 114 with my A4, great cam, ran great good power, but you'll need a higher stall TC with pretty much any aftermarket cam. With this cam and the 3.15 you can use the Mike Mercury TC....you'd be happy with that set up, near stock type drivability with little loss in MPG
LPE 219 cam. No lope and more power than 02-04 Z06 camshaft. If you do go with the Z06 camshaft you will need to change the WOT shift points to about 6500
