Pull Key, wait 10 Service Column Lock....BUT?????????????
First of I have read the full sticky on this and Iam quite aware of how and what should work to fix this problem. My case is weird and unique thus I need assistance.
I have a 2002 MN6. I had the Service Column Lock message come up years ago....like 6 or 7. My column locked up but I was able to get it to unlock by shaking the wheel. I ordered a CLB from Corvettes of Houston. I followed the instructions (making sure first that no recall was ever done to my car by GM). Installation went smoothly. The cars been fine since this day 6 or 7 years ago. Recently (and I don't know if its related or not) I had an A&A supercharger installed. Been on the car for about a month now and about 3000 miles. I just got in it last night to start it up and boom. Pull Key....Wait 10 seconds followed up by Service Column Lock. Odd part...the wheel doesn't lock up and I even drove it a bit just by resetting the message on the DIC. I went just around town. No fuel cut off happened. I also disconnected the battery for 20 mins and reconnected. Message still pops up. Voltage is fine at 13.8 at the battery and 14.1 at the DIC. Battery is only about 4 months old and is an optima red top. Could loose connections at the starter cause this? The battery connections were at least 11ft/lbs if not more. The car fires and starts right up. I only had 1 instance after the supercharger install when it took about 6 cranks to fire up when it normally fires at 2-3. I thought it was odd at the time but just dismissed it. Need some advice on where to turn or what to do.
Thanks!
Jeff

I am no expert on this. 8VETTE7 is from what I have read the CLB was an OK fix. I am sure you have read all about the LMC5 Module - complianceparts.com
I just installed the LMC5 kit in my car last month. Good thing about this is it unlocks the steering AND gets rid of the "pull key" message. Only took about 1/2hr to put in.
FWIW my wife's 02 did that once with the CLB....then never again....my 99 has never done it in 16 years of the CLB being installed. If it becomes an ongoing issue I would worry about it otherwise forget it and drive on....
Has anybody been able to reach this company that sells the LCM5???
I called 2 days ago...no answer and the voicemail sounds like its a personal line? The voicemail is also full so I can't even leave a message. I emailed them as well....no reply. Not exactly the best business practices.

Yeah I been testing it over the past 2 days...message is determined to be there...Richard believes 1 of the 2 relays has failed...either the CLB or the column lock. Either way his LMC5 will fix it...best yet...I don't have to dissemble my car or even remove the CLB! By installing his device...it completely kills off all electrical signal going to the CLB and the other parts of that system rendering them dead and not used. 10 min fix!

yeah well that is different alright the message went away on hers at next start up.
hey if you find a way to get rid of the Service Vehicle Soon message I have had since 55K let me know...it won't go away after 2 builds, including complete new motor and a few tunes

Good luck
Are you getting that message after you had a Traction Control Message or something relating to the traction control services?
Best part of the LMC5 is that you don't have to disassemble the dash to install it and that it abandons all the factory and recall wiring/components down stream of the BCM. So no worries about the problem coming back again in a few years because some other factory component has failed.
My only additional recommendation is to save the install instructions so that should you start seeing the "pull key and wait..." message you can perform the brown wire mod explained on page 2 of the install instructions. Because of timing idiosyncrasies of the BCM electronics this message does occur on some C5's after the LMC5 install. But the product has this solution if it should happen.

nope....came on around 50K or so and is still on at 140K.....I just clear it out along with the Service TPMS message I get....I have no sensors so thats to be expected....hmmm...maybe they are related

Strange indeed and Iam assuming you pulled all codes from the DIC after displaying this and you didn't have any except for the TPMSs?

yep....funny thing is when I removed the TPMS I didn't get a message for several months....it was like the car didn't even notice its been so long now the only way I will ever know is if I ever buy some sensors.....not likely at this point....who knows

Well to give an update...I installed the LMC5. Fixed my problem! No more DIC messages! Its not hard, except for the fact that you don't have much room down there under the passenger side foot well. Its a bit intimidating at first since you have to pull wires out of the stock harness and install some new ones, but if you go slow and just read the instructions and follow them step by step you can't go wrong.
Some tips:
When removing wires from the harness...make sure to push on the wire to force it fully into the harness...hold it there...then put the small alan wrench tool in to remove it. If you put the alan wrench in first and the wire is not all the way up to the end of the connection it may fight you and not want to come out.
When you all done..put the cable ties on loose BEFORE you put the BCM back into clips that hold it in place. The instructions say after but its much easier before. The wires are right there intead of all pressed together and bunched up close to the footwell plastic and BCM itself.
