Default Leaking Thermostate Housing

Need a little help. Installed it twice. First time I misaligned the o ring. Second time made sure it was in right, seems to still leak.

Should I put some gasket maker on the two mating surfaces?

Try installing it again?

Thanks for the help.

PS, its not attached to the housing. 2001 SC vette

Same damn thing happened to me. Well, I got it right on the second try. Had to go out and buy an o-ring seal (as the original one got crushed). Came home and used a very small amount of specialty product (3M Rubber-toughened Super glue) to glue o-ring to housing in about 4 places. Let it drive overnight.
Someone on here had recommended using an extremely small spot of RTV between housing and o-ring, but I had the 3M product and knew it would be easier to use.

Good luck

Where just talking about the goofy o-ring that wraps around the thermostat right?
I guess I can try another. Tightened the bolts, if that don't work new o-ring tomorrow.

Thanks guys.

The T-stat housing appears to be the one on the top, while my water pump is the one on the bottom.

When disassembled, the old t-stat fell right out.

I assume the guy who built the engine 10 years ago put in the lose fitting stat and correct housing when he did it. It hasn't been a problem and has been this way for years, until I decided to fix it myself!

Ill double check the pump, but the housing is definitely the one on the top.

Thoughts?

How many times have I fixed something that wasn't broke? Not sure, but I have learned a lot on the way. In fact, that is how I graduated with an advanced degree from The School of Stoopid Mistakes.
Good luck.

Its definitely the old water pump and new housing.
Question is, its been working fine this way for 10 years.

If you cant mix and match parts, how did the engine builder do it?

I'm so confused.....

I checked the engine builders receipt, just happened to have it.

They installed a Mr Gasket 160 stat, and the LS2 T-state housing last time in the shop.

That was last April. Thermostat was sticking, so I got a new one. 'Ill check the gasket thickness when I disassemble it again.
