Am planning to change cat back exhaust on c5 would like to remove old cat back exhaust before I order new, but was wondering can I drive car with cat back removed? Had a 91 c4 with l98 and muffler delete pipes would the sound be similar? Wasn't crazy about the 91 with muffler delete but curious to hear what is sounds like on my c5? Also want to be sure I will not damage anything running car with out mufflers and having exhaust before rear axle?
I personally do not recommend driving without the axleback exhaust. Hot exhaust will dump right under your car. I have seen photos of broken leaf springs due to too much heat from bypass valves, and what you're doing will be even worse.
The job of an exhaust system is primarily to get the hot exhaust out and away from the car. If it made sense to dump under the car, engineers would have designed it that way. But nobody does it and it's for good reason.
Thanks Gimp! I didn't think of that! Makes perfect sense! That would be in the area of the fiberglass leaf spring and I now see how this would be an issue!
