HUD dim when ambient temperature hot. HELP?

HUD dim when ambient temperature hot. HELP?
2004 Z06. The HUD seems to work just fine when the outside temperature is comfortable. When I bought this car last month it was about 110 degrees out and the HUD was dim.
I did some research here and found a few references to a GM Forum wherein the problem with other GM cars has been bad solder joints to the photo sensor on the HUD circuit board. Seemed like an easy fix.
Today I disassembled my dash and removed the HUD unit to make the fix. But when I got onside of it.... No photo sensor. And the board looks nothing like any pics I've been able to find on the 'net.
Anyone else tackled this issue and can throw me some help please?
I'd rather not reassemble the car until I get it fixed.
