Default Help: What size rims do I have?

OK here's the deal:

I bought my 99 2 years ago. Already had aftermarket rims/tires on it. I want to get new rims but keep my current tires. (Rims are showing wear. Tires are still good.) I want to get the EXACT wheels I have on there now ( or close enough to it to be able to still use my current tires on my NEW rims) to replace my old ones.

The wheels are staggered 18/19. ( +1" bigger than stock ). The front tires are 275/35/18. The rear tires are 305/30/19. I guess my question is: how do you tell EXACTLY what width the rims are that are already on your car? Is there any place you can go to that'll help you out? or can any of you help/tell on sight simply by seeing them? I'd even be willing to drive a distance to someone to help me get this ball rolling. I live 30 mins. south of Salisbury Maryland.

Thx much.

John

Measuring the wheels that way to determine width works well, but when replacing the wheels, you will also need to know the offset. The offset measurement is the distance (in MM) from the wheel mounting flange to the inside edge where the tire meets the rim. With non-stock tire sizes, it's possible that the wrong offset will cause the tires to rub on the suspension components or wheel wells.

Some aftermarket wheels will have the wheel dimensions molded into the inside of the wheel center.

First. I would take of the wheels and see if they are marked on the inside.

Second I would take off the wheels and measure them for width and offset.

Note the wheel width is from the inside of the wheel bead from side to side or as 8VETTE7 stated from face to face and subtract 1" is usually close.

Note also that the wheel backspacing is from the mounting face to the inside edge of the wheel. Offset is from the mounting face to the centerline of the wheel. It is not from the mounting face to the edge where the tire meets the rim as c4cruiser stated.

Good luck.

John, post a few pictures if you can, someone may even recognize them. What tires are you running? Are they run-flats?

For the front tire, 275/35/18, Tire Rack suggests a rim width from 9" to 11".

For the rear tire, 305/30/19, Tire Rack suggests a rim with from 10.5" to 11.5".

Good luck... GUSTO
